I am new to owning a purebred shepherd. I am also new to owning a female. I got Doe’a on June 7, 2008. She was just 3 months old. My husband went and picked her up at night, and as soon as she came through my front door, we bonded instantly.
Now, I have written and rewritten this comment several times. I don’t want to make it to long, however I don’t want to leave anything out either. There is just so much I can say about her.
We got her for a couple of reasons. I have wanted a shepherd for a while, and my husband wanted a personal protection dog for me because he sometimes has to work out of town. I am looking forward to the obedience and training.
It has been almost 8 weeks since I have gotten Doe’a. She is going on 5 months old and is already very protective of her family and her home. She loves to play, take walks, jog, cuddle, and she is great with my kids. She is so intelligent! She knows the rules of the house and she learned them quickly. She is pretty laid back, and she is very alert.
I wouldn’t trade her in for anything!

Helllloo there ..
well  -- have you missed The Ike Report???

I've been a bit layed up  -- had foot surgery  (such a small part of the body to be SUCH a big pain !)     --- which gives me a great Ike report:  oh   as I'm typing that he comes over ,,,   what a ham.

I'm so grateful for this laptop  -- as I've been a lump on the couch for almost a month now  --  Dr said I was on the Five Minute plan :   I could be up for five min  -- then had to be down with foot UP  for 45 min ...    ugh ...   REALLY a pain and  boring .....
anyway  ...  Rick was a bundle of nerves worrying about my foot -- had a pin in it and was swollen like a balloon  ..    but good sweet Ike  just seemed to realize the situation  -- although he was really intent on smelling my foot every day ---  he was so very very careful around me  -- never once did he hit it or step on me ...   and when he seemed to realize I was going to stay laying around here -- he got so he'd come over and lay his head on me  ---  that was the good times  --  otherwise he'd  bring his favorite toy  -- a small cat toy -  a fuzzy mouse that was drippy after he chewed and loved on it  ..  and dropped it on my chest to see if I wanted to play  .... ugh ...  nice of him to share....        actually he'd bring toys and then play really gently with me as I lay here --

I LOVE this dog Theresa  --- can't say it enough  ..  and Rick is just as crazy about him  ... he's got such a personality .. and   he's SO smart  --  he understands our conversations  ...   really!

When our grandkids come,  he's SOOOOO good with them  -- well --- sometimes he accidentally knocks them down  -- and he does like to bring toys and hold the toys in the kid's faces  ( they're short,  you know )     but,  he won't take cookies from them   ( he does wait patiently in case they want to drop them,  however )  and he absolutely never has growled or acted upset when they've been rough with Ike    ( it's the kids I should pen up )...      he's a good dog ...  would probably have been a fantastic family dog....  he really seems to like kids,  which is surprising since he's not around them a whole lot ...
     Anyway ...   I know I've never gotten pictures sent  -- sigh ...   someday ...     but,  rest assured,  he's a handsome man ...    !

Hope all is well with you

I am writing to thank Dugas Kennels for my best friend and shadow.  Two years ago my son, daughter-in-law and grand kids moved from Oregon (where I am) to Missouri.  Needless to say, I was lost.  I was used to spending time with my son's family every weekend and at least once during the week.  All of a sudden I was lost and didn't know what to do with myself.

But my sister and brother-in-law did (Theresa and Mike Dugas).  They had this beautiful dog named Queze (QZ).  She was a year old at the time.  I need to back track here for a moment,  when QZ was 6 weeks old, I first met and fell in love with her, but at the time my brother-in-law Mike was planning on keeping her for himself since he already had her father.  Every time I would visit my sister's place I would go find QZ and play with her.  As QZ grew, so did her long hair, she turned out to be a long coat (for which I am thankful).  Mike and Theresa decided that QZ no longer suited their needs and that she needed to be with me.  Once again, thanks Mike and Theresa for this wonderful gift of love.

Needless to say, she is my constant companion.  She believes I am her job.  My husband was working in Washington at the time and I was living in Oregon.  We spent a lot of time on I-5 together between the two states.  I can go anywhere day or night and know I am 100% safe when she is with me.  Now I am retired and living in Washington also.  She is happy my husband and myself are both in one place again.  We live on a lake and she loves going for late evening swims.    She is one of the most well manored animals I have ever been around.

Being alone so much of the time, I started to talk to my QZ as if she were a person, and she has amazed me in her understanding of me. I can honestly say she is my best friend and companion and shadow.  Where ever I go, she is right in front of me.  It used to irritate me that she had  to enter any place we went before I did (she would even move me out of the way).  I then learned it was part of her job to make sure nothing inside the door we went through would harm me.  She is amazing!  Thanks Theresa and Mike, you saved me...     Wanda

I was just giving Coop a bath and realized I hadn't written you for some time. Grant's computer got a virus and his computer was sending out thousands of email a minute. Our provider caught it and we were down until we got it fixed.

Coop is great. He weighs 80 pounds now. He is my guide dog now. He goes everywhere with me. I got a harness and when he has it on, he acts like a machine. When we go into a restaurant, he lays down and never moves. He has been to church a few times and the only thing that made him move was me standing up when we were singing. Even when he is not in harness, he is my constant companion. He helps me up stairs and never leaves my side. He is so smart, I can't believe it. I can't tell you how much he means to me, but I think you know.

Thanks so much for this wonderful dog!!

Hell my name is Carrie Lietz  and we have Tasha a German Shepherd that came from your kennel.  I just wanted to see if you might be interested in hearing about her life with us.  We got her from a couple outside of Portland.  We have moved and no-longer have there address.  Tasha is the BEST dog ever she is so very loving, intelligent, sweet, protective and very easy to train.  I have always wanted a German Shepherd.  Tasha is my dream come true, she is with us always.  She has decided that it was her job to look out for our son who is four years old every time he is outside she is right there with him.  She put a smile on our face as well as our heart.  We have had her spayed and all shots annul check ups and she is also on heart guard.  She is very well taken care of and she is very happy.  We live in Sunriver, Oregon, just 3 blocks from the Deschutes River, every summer all summer long she gets to float river and swim which she loves. At the end of every summer we go to the coast and I think that's her favorite place to go.  Well I hope this is the right email address. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,  Carrie & Duane Lietz

Koda just turned a year old and we took him to the beach for the first time.  He loved swimming in the ocean and chasing sticks.  Our family is so happy with
him.  He is great with the kids - even when they try to ride him or  pretend he is a customer at their make believe restaurant and try to stuff food in his mouth.
He is always by their side playing with them, their friends, and my mother's three Chihuahuas with such a gentle nature that I wondered if he even knew how to
growl. I'm happy to say that he has showed us during our last camping trip when a stranger came up behind our tent that he can be quit intimidating if need be -
it was the first time I had ever heard him growl and actually look fierce.  We all slept sounder that trip knowing Koda was in the tent with us.  Thank you so much for our sweet dog!

Caleb is an awesome puppy and quickly developing into an incredible dog. He is very protective and very smart. He has graduated from his beginners obedience class and will be attending the intermediate class this month. He loves to play with kids and other dogs. If he has a choice, he prefers to hang with us females. Caleb was at my in laws and my neice was playing on some wood that was really loose and Caleb got on the logs and would not let her on it, in fear that she would get hurt.

Another time my husband was taking a bath and Caleb was in there with him and Caleb tried to get him out, but didn't really get freaked out until he put his head under the water, at which time Caleb had jumped in the tub and was really trying hard to get him out. It was really funny and cute, but this truly showed us how much of a family member he really is, especially when he thought one of his own was in trouble.

I'm looking forward to him becoming CGC Certified so I can take him into the hospitals. I want to share his love for life with others.
